ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT 'THE SPORT STUDENT DIARIES'

Updated: May 30, 2019

Welcome to our new concept at NMC! I'm assuming that if you're reading this post you're either an athlete, a sport or fitness enthusiast or a curious student looking for some empathy during exam period. Well, you'll be glad to know that this blog is going to be about all things that will interest you.

In today's post I shall be filling you in about the direction I wish this blog to take. For now you'll be able to experience first hand what it's like to be a sport student in Malta. More specifically, a sport student trying to make it as a Strength and Conditioning coach. Reaching this goal has been my dream of mine for so long and it finally seems to be taking shape here at NMC sport performance.

Let's get into some details regarding the Sport Science course. I am reading for a B. Sc in Sports and Physical Activity, it's super hands on, as opposed to my previous attempt at a Bachelors in Psychology, I honestly have no idea why I thought I would be good at sitting down in an office from 9am - 5pm listening to people's problems. I can barely sit still for an hour to study, and if I do manage, I usually end up coming up with some self-diagnosis of stress induced mania or something similarly dramatic.

Anyways, so since our course is more practical, they've had us bouncing from school to school, organising sports days, trying out different sports and writing about a BILLION assignments per semester, not even exaggerating... I promise.

Technically, I shouldn't be complaining because I grade better in assignments than in exams. All jokes aside, this course has taught me so many things that have changed the way I coach and work with athletes. I'll be going into more detail about this in the coming blog posts.

Now a little bit about what I do at NMC. Well, for starters there's this blog which I'm super excited about. I love sharing what I learn with my athletes and this just expands the number of people I can reach (hopefully). I'm also in charge of editing the NMC website and my favourite part is most definitely the fitness testing and body composition tests, it truly brings out the sport nerd inside of me. Last but not least, starting in summer, I'll be coaching a few athletes too.

Speaking of SUMMER *internally cries*, it's about three weeks away and the stress is hitting...HARD. FYI, If you need to contact me at any given point during the day, I'll most likely be in the library touching up on assignments and trying to understand the force a footballer exerts on a football. I have this 'great' system where I study super hard for a number of days in a row, till I bring myself to tears one day. I usually take that as the 'burnout' sign and proceed to binge watching Netflix for a whole morning (I recently started watching What / if and got through half the season already).

highly recommend!

But its all fun and games to be honest because I actually really enjoy learning about anything sport related. Since working with Nigel, watching how dedicated he is to his job 24/7, I've been feeling extremely motivated to work more consistently and waste less time, to eventually achieve the title of a Strength and Conditioning coach.

So that's mostly it for now. A little bit about me and this new blog idea. I'm off to touch up on a presentation that I'm due to give in tomorrow! You know the feeling...

I hope you guys enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing. I'd love to hear any ideas or topics you would like me to discuss, just leave a comment below.

From one sports geek to the next,

Pia x
